My first memory

I was two. I know, I know, people always say "you can't remember when you were two!" But, I can. It's not perfectly clear, just brief images...

The whole thing feels like I'm viewing it from inside a diving helmet.

I walk into a hospital room and I have to look up at everything. The bed frame is right at my nose. First I see my grandmother to my left in the far corner. The room is very bright, but small, and her white smock kind of glows over her green pants. She's smiling, but her face muscles are having a hard time supporting it.

I turn to my left and I see my grandpa standing next to the door, almost behind it, so a shadow is cast upon him, but I can see he's smiling too. His arms are crossed over his chest and he's leaning with his back to the wall.

I turn back to my right and see my dad and my brother standing next to the bed and my mother is in it. My brother is leaning on his elbows on the edge of the bed with a new action figure in his hand. My dad is looking at me and invites me over with a wave of his hand. My mom turns to me as I walk toward the bed. Her dark bangs are stuck to her forehead and her hospital gown is loosly covering her. Her eyes are fighting to stay open but her grin seems permanent. She hands me a Lime Chiffon Strawberry Shortcake minature. I didn't have that one yet. That's when I got happy, when I got that doll.

My little sister was born an hour or two before and I was pumped about a doll. So, why do I remember this? I like to think it's because it was the day my sister was born. But, it could very well be that Lime Chiffon was a big addition to my collection.

Stories from my life so far

I think I'll use this blog to do something productive. At first I was going to review kids books (I want to write them), but that didn't pan out. Then I was going to make it sort of a barfing of my feelings. That was a little too dramatic, which is the last thing I need. So, I think I'll write the stories I've been meaning to put down for a while. Just the adventures I've had so far. Hmm...
